Toronto FC - Players of Note



Designated Players (DPs): The rule allows each MLS franchise to sign players that would be considered outside of the team's salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player), allowing MLS teams to compete for star players in the international soccer market. 



Michael Bradley - USA international, signed from Roma in 2014
Jozy Altidore - USA international, signed from Sunderland in 2015.
Sebastian Giovinco- Italy international. signed from Juventus in 2015.
Gilberto - Signed from Internacional in 2013

Homegrown Players (HGPs): Allows MLS teams to sign players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters.

Manny Aparicio - Canadian youth international, signed directly from Academy in 2013
Ashtone Morgan - Canadian international, signed directly from Academy in 2011
Quillan Roberts - Canadian international, signed directly from Academy in 2012 
Christopher Mannella- Canadian youth international, signed directly from Academy in 2014

Along with the four current TFC Academy players currently with the "A" team, Russell Teibert spent some time in the Academy before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program in 2008, where he later signed a professional contract in 2010.
