Shakeup in the East

The win in Columbus Saturday night was massive for TFC. Did they bring home the Trillium Cup? Yes. Did they take 9 points this season from the Crew? Yes. Did they complete the season sweep? Yes. Did they get a lot of help elsewhere in the Eastern Conference over the weekend? Yes.
The club got a second win in a row for the first time this season in MLS play. They defeated Columbus 3-2 in Crew Stadium. Gilberto, Jonathan Osorio, and Luke Moore scored for the Reds. TFC improved to 9-7-5 on the season. With so many lingering injuries for TFC including Defoe and Caldwell, these past two wins have been crucial to staying on track.

This was not the only good result that TFC got this weekend. Sporting KC, the defending MLS Cup champions as well as the current leader in the Eastern Conference, lost to Vancouver last night 2-0. DC United dropped their match 3-0 to RSL on Saturday. The Red Bulls fell to Chicago 1-0 last night. What exactly does this mean to the playoff race now entering Week 23 of the regular season? Well TFC is sitting much more comfortably in 3rd place with a game or two in hand over all other teams in the East.

TFC has positioned themselves quite well down the stretch to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in club history. The game Saturday night at Sporting Park against the defending champs is going to be fun. And I mean really fun. Stay tuned for a match preview in the middle of the week.
